Much of my recent work is about memory. My work with life masks, usually taken of people I know well, represents a transformation of the living person into the stillness of a mask. Some viewers find these images unsettling. To me, it allows for intimate, minute involvement with the face as a sculptural object while remembering the living person. I think of these as “animate ghosts.”
