ARTIST STATEMENT
The art experience is both my quest and reward. My art is about female identity, socialization, and spirituality. Art heals and communicates since that’s what it does for me. To me, Art is a mirror, an expression of the unknown self, communicating its own truth.
I combine ideas and materials to manifest an inspiration and challenge into a visual form made of personal reflections and perspectives on being a woman, an activist, and an artist. Super Powers is a contrasting idea between the silliness and strangeness of two toys with magical abilities. Eve’s Council shows a confident Eve in the center of a circus show look surrounded by a menagerie of critter-type characters. Two snakes entwine her arms and rise above her, representing wisdom. Archangel is a winged teddy, lingerie clothing, also known as a braslip, worn by women, often sexy in style. I’m contrasting sexiness with celestial holiness.
