ARTIST STATEMENT
Food has always held a special place in my heart as a means of connecting with my heritage, bridging generational gaps, and exploring the rich tapestry of diverse cultures. My latest project, Arroz al Horno, a beloved dish in Mexican cuisine, embodies a deep-rooted connection in my upbringing. Delving into the history of each ingredient, I traced their path to Mexico and, ultimately, to my own kitchen. This journey was an exploration of the heritage and fusion of flavors that characterize Mexican cuisine. In my artwork Memories with Mary, I designed a traditional altar that unites foods from three different cultures, forging connections with loved ones who have passed away. These offerings symbolize the merging of diverse traditions as a way to remember and celebrate those we hold dear.
