Now, there is so much agonizing longing for even the smallest touch and comforting hug. Before, when I made this family portrait, we didn’t know our basic human affections or polite gestures were deadly. More and more I think about my mother and her mother and all of us who though we let go, feel great loss. Loss and letting go seems to be the rule now.
