Alma Teclado (Keyboard souls)
low-fire terracotta, acrylics, cover coat
7 x 8 in.
These pieces are inspired in the Mexican codices such as the Borgia and the Nuttall. The windows represent bodies of water where you find internal parts of keyboards. These windows represent the idea of the death of a keyboard. The ancient cultures of Mesoamerica believe their infraworld was aquatic; relating water with death. All the pieces symbolize a container for the souls/spirits of the keyboard.
This work presents part of an ongoing research where I try to blend the present and the past by mixing ideas of technology with beliefs of ancient cultures such as the Ancient Maya. I call this research Mayatosh. I invite you to visit my website at: www.mayatosh.com
