“One Day’s Labor” is just that; a series of over 25 construction workers produced by one day’s worth of searching out and photographing. By setting out on foot to find these men* I intended to return the viewers gaze to an often seen but frequently overlooked group of individuals: those who physically build and maintain the world we live in. This exercise forced me to strip away my own feelings of shyness and urban alienation, allowing me to reclaim a sense of what it is to live in a neighborhood. Besides being a testimony to what is possible to create in one day, this series pays homage to its subjects whose warm, self-depreciating and pretensionless attitudes produced the resulting images.
