Circuit Board Butterfly #16
pastel and ink on computer print
14 x 20 in.
I live in Interior, Alaska. This work is an expression of my intense love/hate relationship with technology and its impact on my environment. I had a dream that human-created patterns became so pervasive that butterflies started mimicking them. This was after visiting New York City, where mockingbirds mimick car alarms to the point where the two are indistinguishable. This is one of my many butterflies I have designed, using computer graphics and then hand painting on the computer print. The butterfly’s pattern is an enhanced image of a modem’s circuit board.
