ARTIST STATEMENT
I am often lost in reflecting, grasping futilely to the fog of memory passing through time. Can I extract the essence of a moment and pin it down? How can I preserve this, preserve you? I am discovering what is worth saving, and the imperfect ways we try to save. I want to prove that you were here, and all the rest too. Stamp you in time, permanently… if there is such a thing— and, did you know that there is a bizarre subculture of printmaking within the heroin market? Warring suppliers brand their merchandise with custom stamps of clip-art and logos of various well-known chains to identify their product. Anyways, all I’m trying to say is I miss you.
According to the CDC, 128 people die every day in America from heroin. Many of these deaths are caused by heroin being cut with unregulated materials like coffee, shoe polish, plaster, wax, clay, antihistamines, and strychnine.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lacey Minor is a midwestern artist based in St. Louis, MO. She achieved her MFA from James Madison University in Virginia. Her work struggles with the concept of impermanence and tries to capture the emotion of moments that are already gone or changed. In this fast-paced world, we are often made to rush through emotions of grief and trauma. Lacey’s work demands that you sit in that emotion, albeit a hazy memory, for this is how we heal. She illustrates personal experience juxtaposed with manifestations of her societal reflections related to issues such as gender equality, sexual politics, and addiction.
