Dead Friend
charcoal and graphite on burned paper
The act of drawing, for me, directs my fleeting thoughts to paper so I can see them a little more clearly. Primarily, my reference material is derived from old family snapshots.
While I view these static subjects, I contemplate my own emotional response to them. Somehow I recreate lost or fuzzy memories as I project my own interpretation onto a time that came before me. I guess I could call it a sort of nostalgic eavesdropping. The expressions serve as a portal for illustrating the self.
