My mixed media works deal with issues of embodiment, identity and the forces that shape personality. I mediate ideas about identity and psychological development through the physical act of mark making. Using graphic images gleaned from scientific illustration, antique toy catalogs and quasi-nostalgic sources, I reinterpret and reconfigure them into sometimes provocative, sometimes humorous, narrative fragments that have been described as “medicalized fairy tales”. This process is a way for me to consider, to think kinetically and associatively. I believe the resulting work invites the viewer to engage in a similar process.
