I consider intimacy a radical act. We are encouraged to be tough, and shut ourselves off from our emotions so that we can appear strong, but I believe that true strength comes from accessing and processing your feelings. Through that, we can be vulnerable and fragile with one another. I work with fragile materials and create fragile objects so that the viewer can see vulnerability in the piece, and thus mimic it themselves. In this series, I am working with dryer sheets, as a nod to the domestic space, which is stereotypically female. Women’s emotions are constantly being policed and punished, and through my work I am exalting them.
