“The “Papa” series focuses on the strained relationships with the paternal figures throughout my life. I wanted to capture that tension, using these routine symbols. There is a space created from isolation and reflection, capturing the moments that one cannot return to. The first piece was on that isolation and the spiritual awakening that was taxing on the notions of intimacy and self-worth. Other works are about creating a space of prosperity after much sadness and frustration from witnessing the lack of self-care displayed by an overworked paternal figure, and about uncertainty in mortality, with the growing cancer cells representing the worsening situation where the paternal figure is suffering with everyone, helpless to do anything but grieve.”
