If the initial thrust of Pop art was a critique of postwar consumerism and a response to Abstract Expressionism, it was a project that was quickly reconfigured by the worlds of advertising and big business. The disposable consumer culture became so transcended that pop art lost all trace of its dada irony. I seek to REpackage the disposable products of our pop life – its music, its food, its literature – in order to highlight the culture in consumerism.
