Fitting In
encaustic collage on panel
18 x 23 in.
Girls grow up with dreams of wearing a wedding gown and saying “I do”. Dreams of walking down the aisle and becoming someone’s wife. And girls are pressured to “fit in”, wearing the right clothes, having the right hairdo, and of course, the right figure. Currently the definition of marriage is being redefined and defined by our politicians.
“To Marry”, whom and which sex? Do we have the right to fall in love and marry whom we choose? I explored these themes using the technique of encaustic painting. I also collaged comic strips and my childhood drawings of brides saved by my grandmother from the 50’s.
