ARTIST STATEMENT
I am happiest working on my art. I have been making 3-D sculptures for 30 years now, though I started in watercolor around 1959. From 1990 on I ventured into acrylics starting on paper and then canvas, then onto wood. My work evolved quickly into 3-D, and some mixed media wall works on wood. I am making smaller works now, for ease of transport. I make abstract work, mostly colorful. The 3 works I entered in this show are 3 of my latest finished works.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I graduated from Eastern Michigan University, near where I live, in around 1965, and took some postgrad work in watercolor with my mentor, Kingsley Calkins, as instructor. That is where I advanced fastest, and started exhibiting in juried shows. I have been accepted in exhibitions in the Detroit Artists Market, the Scarab Club (Detroit) Gold* and Silver* Medal shows, the Midland Center for the Arts* in MI., the former Ann Arbor Women Painters* exhibitions, the Birmingham (MI) Bloomfield Art Center*, the Anton Art Center* in Mt. Clemons, MI, Corpus Christi, TX’s DelMar College*, the Mesa Art Center*, Mesa, AZ, Muskegon (MI) Art Museum, the Ann Arbor Art Center* (MI), and the Gutman Gallery, in Ann Arbor Michigan; with awards* in a number of these exhibitions.
