Gutted
ceramic parts, human hair, beads, dried pigment, thread

The figures of my work walk the line between cute and sinister. I am influenced by imagery from childhood: dolls, sewing kits and frilly dresses. As a child dressed in pinafores and flowered frocks, I was fascinated by dissecting and reassembling doll parts. Over the past few years, I have found several sewing kits. Inside each, was a collection of tiny treasures: needles, patches, thimbles all neatly arranged into a secretive world of family history. Ambiguous narratives imply stories of tragedy, dysfunction and disability.
