ARTIST STATEMENT
“That’s Hot” embraces the body of the bimbo through fashion. Designed with references to pop-culture, Bimbo icons, and burlesque silhouettes, the work demands to be center stage. The structure of the top as a removable wrap voices the act of strip as a form of empowerment and sexual freedom. The sequined double B on the panties – a superhero or a Scarlet Letter – the bimbo brands herself as her own icon. The pink satin shines loudly, while the marabou feather trim teases both the viewer and the wearer. The entire ensemble is sensual, playful, and camp.
Displayed on a vintage Victoria’s Secret dress form, the bimbo’s look challenges the capitalistic male-gaze driven industry through her handmade one-of-one custom look. Now that’s hot.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jannet Dzeneta Habibovic (she/her/hers) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores high femininity and the female gaze. Based in Milwaukee with roots in Chicago, both cities have supported her love for fashion. In her paintings, she often inserts designer fashion iconography alongside her own designs critiquing the high fashion industry. Her use of familiar faces of friends and family within her paintings brings personality and life to each work.
Strong work ethic and versatility were inherited from her Bosnian immigrant parents and five-sibling family. Currently, she works as a graphic designer at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design.
