With a degree in both the fine arts and hard science, Brandt’s paintings exude her interest in scientific inquiry by referencing cellular forms and movement. Painted compactly with an unapologetic use of vibrant color, these works synthesize forms which agglomerate as if to bubble over, suggesting continuing expansion. There is a childlike sense of wonder to these non- literal works. Brandt’s memories of studying slides under her toy microscope as a young girl transform into larger than life configurations. These bulbous forms are able to suggest movement and reproduction through the use of scale, complementary and vibrational color choices, and abstracted forms.
