I’m Getting Married
gauze, needle, thread
50 x 50 x 40 in.

My work is questioning women’s roles and assignment, domestic violence and the fragility of women’s identity that underpin patriarchal tradition of marriage system.  These themes are joined with ordinary but symbolic objects of marriage and domestic life, such as wedding gowns, furniture, underwear and pillows.  On those objects, I sew texts that indicate wounds, shell and shadows of woman’s true nature, which is produced by social pressure and domestic duties of married women.  Through my work, I hope viewers to examine the ignored issues of unequal marriage roles in contemporary society.
