As Far As Secular Angels Go
acrylic and ink on canvas
48 x 36 in.

This work is part of a series where I have imagined the dress worn by my grandmother on her bridal day–my loving earthly grandmother, and the archetypal Great Mother herself. The dress, never worn before the ceremonial moment, is imbued with numinous power, the power of myth and tradition. The power to transform a life, to initiate the bride into full womanhood. How this symbolic shift is embodied and lived is an ever-present question each woman must answer for herself, for better or worse.
