ARTIST STATEMENT
DA Terzian’s “Cat Lady” series, references historic feminine profiles in artwork, creating an imaginary world of dual engagement between ladies and cats. Her oil on canvas paintings are based on her interest in the human/animal bond and her experience fostering cats for an animal shelter in New York City and building trust with varied feline personalities. Her goal is to produce paintings that connect you to an animal, even if not your pet, and to consider their domesticated experience. Her work often bends the rules of perspective, juxtaposes flat and formed elements, incorporates symbolism and gives the viewer enough information to recognize the elements depicted in the painting while retaining a little mystery.
