Often drawing on memory and emotion, I create diaristic photographs that hover between staged self-portraits and constructed memories. My work is deeply personal, recalling lived experience to fuel each project. The examination of visual metaphor and personal narrative informs my practice as well as research into the reliability and legitimacy of memory.
My most recent body of work visualizes loss and the looming emotions thereafter. I turned to my camera after suffering a miscarriage to construct and document the moments connected to my loss. Each image is carefully constructed, depicting personal mementos and symbols while also incorporating images of myself. The resulting photographs serve as artifacts, creating a visual archive of my experience and the accompanied complex emotions that cannot be articulated through words alone. This series serves as a personal narrative of loss and healing.
