Place to Rest – Lichen (2013)
stoneware – 19 x 15 x 9.5 inches

When I began to make rock forms, I awoke one day saying Immutable. I wondered if I was drawn to rocks, because they’re unchanging? But they are not! They’re formed and reformed by elemental forces, and without that change, I would not have clay to shape into art.  It is the rock’s history that is immutable. And people’s history, too. The lichen and cracks in “Signs” give evidence of a not immediately apparent trauma. http://www.cdpeterson.com
