Byways Series #2

Byways is a landscapes series of deteriotating, mostly industrial sites in semi-rural areas along transportation routes from the Midwest to the East Coast. They reference the once-thriving, now rapidly vanishing industrial sector of the US economy. The title refers not only to the roads along which the photos were made, but also the “ways gone by,” that is, the jobs, lifestyles, and social continuity of the places left behind once industry is gone. The images (although blurred) when viewed from a distance, can be clearly read as specific, recognizable forms and structures, but when looked at up-close, the forms nearly disappear, mirroring the actual sites, which will soon be found only in our memory.
