ARTIST STATEMENT
As a woman, a Black woman, of a certain age, I am always conflicted by the word, “feminism”, because my memory is long and I remember Black women being left out of those conversations – intentionally. I will say that I am a staunch supporter of the wants and needs of Black women. That I am a fighter for Black women. That I hold the sanctity of Black Womanhood high.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a visual artist, a collector of things and stories. I present all that I collect back to the viewer with honor and joy. My work has been honored by the 3Arts organization – most recently as a Next Level/Spare Room Awardee as well as a Tim and Helen Meier Awardee. My works are held in private collections across the US and is presently on view at this year’s Venice Biennale as part of the European Cultural Centre’s Pavillion.
