fiber
24 x 24 in.
The series I have been working on for the past year are what I refer to as fiber paintings. I have been working in fiber for its variety of textures, delicacy, strength and the ease it posses to be transformed, both in form and texture. I use brightly colored yarn to create a juxtaposition with worn out used fabrics. The contrast that comes from my use of color is how I highlight the properties and irregular shapes of the fabric. I use the intrinsic value that comes from handling the fabric to guide my process which consists covering up the base fabric by sewing and wrapping it in a consuming manor. The way I conceptually treat my work is similar to the way I view and interact with a growing organism.
