ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an artist who constructs spirit-filled visual narratives based on the past and present. Using a variety of materials, I engage in conversation with my subject matter. I layer, scrape, draw, paint, sew, reveal, and obscure as an analogy to life’s transformative journeys . I grapple with earthy and mystic subjects such as time travel, uncertainty, humor, grief and delight.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A multi-media artist, I work and reside in Chicago. I received my BFA from the University of Texas and an MFA from the University of Michigan. Currently a working artist-teacher, I teach sculpture, drawing and painting at Mather High School. My work has been collected nationally and internationally through my association with Mary Bell Galleries. I am currently a Fulbright Scholar. Interwoven in these accomplishments is my experience as a woman; artist, daughter, new mother, old mother, sister, and partner.
