Thoughts and Prayers
cotton and sisal on repurposed horse fly nets
64 x 23 x 20 in.

Thoughts and prayers, however genuine, are not enough to stem the converging crises wrought by destructive health, environmental and social policy indifference. Frustration with performative compassion from those in power who refuse to enact legislative change inspired this piece — a shroud of “Thoughts and Prayers” woven on two ragged, vintage horse fly nets. The peripheral fringes, whose movement once protected horses from biting insects, become irrelevant when bound back into the body, rendering the nets useless and cumbersome, incapable of comfort.
