ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an artist who constructs spirit-filled visual narratives based on the past and present. Using a variety of materials, I engage in conversation with my subject matter. Collecting shells on a beach, hearing a fragment of a song, or seeing an incongruous delightful sight serves as inspiration to begin my work. Through my process, I grapple with earthy and mystic subjects such as time travel, uncertainty, humor, grief and delight.
In this seminal series I was exploring place, memory, play and time.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
A multi-media artist, I work and reside in Chicago. I received my BFA from the University of Texas and an MFA from the University of Michigan. Currently an artist-teacher, I teach drawing and painting at Mather High School. My work has been collected nationally and internationally through my association with Mary Bell Galleries. I am currently a Fulbright Scholar. Interwoven in these accomplishments is my experience as a woman; artist, daughter, new mother, old mother, sister, and partner.
