ARTIST STATEMENT
EunKyung (E.K.) Jeong is a first-generation immigrant, artist, art educator, and arts administrator. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and has received various national and international recognitions and fellowships for her work. Jeong’s artwork has been showcased at the prestigious International Fiber Art Biennale in China, “From Lausanne to Beijing.” She won the Best of Show award at the art competition “Paper Work In, On, and of Paper IV,” held by the Foundry Art Centre in St. Louis, Missouri. Her past solo show venues include the Foundry Art Centre and the Governor’s Gallery in the Oklahoma State Capitol. Additionally, Jeong participated in the Outdoor Textile Art Installations segment of the La Triennale Internationale des Arts Textiles en Outaouais at the Moon Rain Centre for Textile Arts in Quebec, Canada.
After moving to Weatherford, Oklahoma, in 2005, Dr. Jeong established the Visiting Artist Program to make arts and culture more accessible to rural communities in western Oklahoma. This program has significantly enriched the local arts scene by bringing national and international artists to the area, allowing many residents to experience and appreciate art. Her dedication to ensuring equal access to the arts for everyone led her to organize the Collaborative Tapestry Project. This initiative, which has profoundly impacted the community, focused on arts education and advocacy. The project’s outcome, a 7-by-14-foot tapestry named “Sun on Earth,” was created by numerous community volunteers, with Dr. Jeong as the project director and tapestry instructor. This tapestry has traveled to various towns in Oklahoma and Texas, promoting community art projects through collaborative art-making methods.
