ARTIST STATEMENT
Yoga connects me to my breath, my mind, my body and helps me release the stress stored there. My practice continues to challenge me while allowing me to check in with myself, my growth and where I’m at in the moment. I chose self portraits from a series titled “there is no home like you” for this reason. These were made during a reflective period where I was spending a lot of time at home and with myself. Although yoga had been part of my life for over 10 years, my home practice became even more integral at this time as it provided consistency, balance, and encouraged me to move my body. The title references a poem by Rupi Kaur that promotes self love and gratitude for the body.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rosalina Perez is a photographer, printmaker, and custom framer living in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Holding a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she is interested in the psychology behind how domestic interior spaces are arranged as well as how the repetitive and intuitive acts of art-making can provide somatic release. Recently she has been making books and zines in an effort to explore her experience with grief and trauma, and has shown work at MANA Contemporary and Woman Made Gallery. In her free time you will find Rosa practicing yoga and rapping along to her favorite song lyrics.
