After going in for an IUD, I was told I had low hormone levels that looked like early pregnancy. After an ultrasound they found what looked like an ectopic pregnancy. They then sent me to the ER where after hours of testing and ultrasounds they assumed I’d lost the fetus already.
I was about to head back to a conservative part of Michigan. I still wanted to take advantage of being in California. When I went back to get an IUD, they did see the fetus along with a tumor. In order to have it done alone – I couldn’t have anesthesia. But planning on leaving the following day I knew I probably didn’t have a choice.
The staff at Planned Parenthood were incredibly kind. I would never wish that type of pain on anyone though. Fear led to that decision. I knew I couldn’t leave without it being done. No woman should have to be that scared. Had I gone back to west Michigan, it would have been infinitely more difficult.
