ARTIST STATEMENT
Through food, I search for my broken ancestral tethers and make them whole once again through type and paint. My family knows very little about our Scottish origins like many other Midwestern Americans. By understanding the history that came before me I can make sense of why we are where we are. In this piece, I explore an old Scottish recipe and the origins of each ingredient. I want he viewer to walk away from this work a little more educated and curious about their history as well.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a Senior at Illinois State University majoring in Graphic Design. I believe Design is the gateway to a better future. The visual medium is a powerful tool that can be used to show a window to a better world. Good design should strive to be inclusive, challenge the viewer, and uplift the community being served.
