ARTIST STATEMENT
This allegorical painting delves into the profound impact of misogynistic religious conviction. An empty girl’s dress descends a staircase, embodying stifled potential. An eagle, crushed by its own fertility, symbolizes the suffocating weight of societal expectations on otherwise powerful women. Adjacent, a statue of the blessed virgin signifies unattainable feminine ideals perpetuated by the church, casting a shadow of pervasive masculine dominance.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a freelance artist located in Chicago. I grew up in Chicago, but have lived in Southern California, Ann Arbor Michigan and Washington DC. I enjoy the miraculous, and most of my art works center on my spiritual trip. For many years I worked in advertising until one day I realized that I no longer wanted to persuade others to “supersize it”. Now I paint, facilitate meditation and art making workshops, and design book covers for self-published writers with positive messages aimed and improving life. I’ve shown my work in several group shows including Art Detroit (Detroit MI), Reversing the Gaze (Detroit MI), and The Figure (Lansing MI).
