ARTIST STATEMENT
This work from my series “Through Two Inches of Seneca Lake” depends first on my use of a camera to look into the water’s edge. I can magnify my view deep into the spaces created there by objects, vegetation, light and moving water. The scale of this ‘inner space’ looks like it could be cosmic or microscopic, or something you’d scoop up with your hand. I enjoy working from the suggestiveness and ambiguity of this visual environment. The lake shore is accessible to me and to everyone in our town by foot. I walk there most days. The lake is a wonderful presence in our lives. We live on Haudenosaunee land.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to make sculpture or painting for about 40 years. My work includes historical bronze figures of women’s rights activists, satirical bronze businessmen figures, bronze portraits, fictional ancient technology, installation, set design for schools and community theater and my daughter’s circus theater company, landscapes, tablescapes, and “Through Two Inches of Seneca Lake.” I live on Seneca Lake in Geneva, New York.
