I come from a long line of women who found joy in working with fabric, needle and thread. My mother taught me to sew, and my grandmother made quilts for every household in the family. As an adult, I learned to quilt also, starting with age old patterns, and gradually moving to contemporary work of my own design. My current work is probably best described as mixed media, consisting of silk and cotton fabric and various kinds of paper on which I employ a number of surface design techniques, including dyeing, painting, discharge, flour paste resist, screen printing, and lamination. Since the time many years ago when my brother and I watched people at the mall, making up a back story for each person who past us, to my many years working as an administrative law judge for a social service agency, I have always been interested in human relationships. My work concerns the relationship of humans to one another and to their physical environment.
