In the Indian culture, the color red represents the transformation of the life of a woman from girlhood to marriage. Red, symbolizing love, strength, prosperity and welfare, permeates Indian Wedding settings.

Despite my long-time American citizenship, it is expected that I marry and that the marriage be arranged. Red tracks the multiplicity of my reactions to arranged marriage, a familiar but no less horrifying concept for me.
