The image of woman as plate spinner—now successful, now frantic—came to me in the midst of a personal crisis. My image of myself was as a plate spinner who finally broke down under the pressure of taking on too much.

It seems to me that brides are likely not aware of all the “unregistered” plates that wives and mothers find themselves spinning. The collage’s text—culled from a 50-year-old etiquette book, the bride—hails from 100 years ago, the theme—timeless.
