I often think of my work as an abject fairy tale.
The juxtaposition of playful imagery and anthropomorphic figures in obscure, ambiguous environments suggests a fundamental sadness layered within a deeper psychological underbelly.
I am interested in exploring the contrast between the artificial sentimentality, particularly as it relates to the animal kingdom, embodied in mass- produced cutesy figurines of Franklin Mint, and the nature fantasies/nightmares containing what is sublimated when such creatures appear—abuse, cruelty, rage, hostility, failure, sex, death and murder.
