Inside Out
acrylic on canvas
43 x 55 x 2 in.
Childhood remains the preeminent theme in my work. My compositions are arranged in elementary landscapes: earth, sky, and water. Palette selections are bright crayon colors favored by children. Images refer to children and childhood: balloons, toys, animals and children playing. These elements are integrated into narratives as seen from an adult perspective; they examine how adults relate to, remember, or forget (?) Childhood.
The relationship between foreground and background in “Inside Out” is deliberately ambiguous. Is the centrally placed Child attempting (albeit hesitantly) to look into her childhood window, or instead, is the Viewer looking onto a landscape that stirs childhood memories?
