I photograph people because they fascinate me. I try to capture their presence. The emotion of the subject in my photographs — some I consider environmental portraits — is embodied in the relationship between subject and place. I try to shape a formal structure where this connection resonates. The presence of ennui in this photograph of a New York art dealer is conveyed and intensified by its composition.
