This piece is a comment on the underlying aggression and repression behind a seemingly innocent thing—an object of beauty or adornment such as jewelry or clothing. I’m interested in the people and labor behind products that are marketed in very sophisticated and seductive ways. In this work, I was looking to expose something behind the surface of the beauty/fashion markets, i.e. underpaid labor, distorted self-image, even the covetousness/envy these products arouse.
