Still Life on a Shelf
forms and shelf of unglazed porcelain

My work is informed by nature. This body of work has emerged as a result of clay journaling – I pinch a porcelain form every day. This journaling process has enabled me to subconsciously draw on images and forms of nature that I have previously studied directly. I have no agenda for the forms when I am making them, yet as they begin to accumulate, I see similarities and relationships between them. I group forms of similar voice and create spaces for them. Their delicacy and sense of transience seems to require protection. I create environments; shelves, boxes and pedestals as their shelters. My work invites contemplation of the natural world and promotes its preservation.
