Although the word “icon” may have many interpretations, to me it means a small, intimate, religious painting on wood. A year ago while my husband was doing consulting work in Montenegro, I had the opportunity to visit many old churches and museums. The churches were of the orthodox variety, full of candles, statues, and religious icons. I was attracted to the intimate, decorative nature of these pieces of art. This influence led to a number of small “icons” of my own, representing an idea in a classical format – small, personal, decorative. The subjects vary and are not religious, but the message is generally simple and direct.
