Whole Grain
hand cut found cardboard packaging
13.5 x 16.5 in.

Everyday design that surrounds us act as reflectors of our cultural values of art, utility, food, and convenience. Contemporary packaging; the photography, layout, and colors that entice me to make a purchase, becomes the way I reflect upon the values of American middle class society, the methods of containment from the past, and the choices I make for my own family.

The contents inside each package mostly contrast the marketing used on the outside. I explore this contrast further as I observe the design of processed food containers (boxes, plastic film, blister packs) in relation to the whole food containers (nets, baskets, ceramic vessels) of our ancestors.
