In the past two years, I have traveled to Havana, Cuba three times. My experiences there were enlightening, and have given me a clearer understanding of how I fit into society, both as a North American and as a woman of mixed heritage; that being black and white.

My time spent in Cuba coupled with the occurrences from my life, lead me to question how it is that Cubans managed to integrate and miscegenate into an ostensibly harmonious group. It is my understanding that Cuba has done something right regarding racial relations. I support that we in North America can learn something about consonant living, acceptance, and tolerance from our Caribbean neighbor.
