Art Must Be Beautiful, Artist Must Be Beautiful is a recreation of Marina Abramović’s performance by the same title. As a person with body dysmorphia, I believe her performance accurately depicts the obsessive elements of this illness through the use of her body. In my video performance, I repeatedly comb my hair and stare at myself in the mirror. The image is multiplied and repeated to represent and amplify the negative intrusive thoughts about my body image.
In my Self-Portrait video series, I utilize myself as the medium. These video works allow me to express my inner emotional and mental state outwards through various video effects.
