Carol Neiger

I am interested in memory and place. For people in exile, memories are passed down from generation to generation through shared stories. Collective memory, public memory and cultural memory help us find our roots of “place” and “home”. Centuries-old structures carry thousands of stories. My iconographic language is comprised of symbols of community—land, home, streets—arranged as a pattern within the context of a geographic place. Layers evoke history, and fractured space suggests the paths of diaspora. How we understand our narrative, defines our place in the world.
