As a feminist and an artist, my daily life is challenged with confronting the relationship between socially constructed prescriptions and psychological dissonance. My work tends to call attention to this bifurcation of the self: one that is preoccupied with assimilation and the other with resistance. Women’s work, domesticity, restrained sexuality, and the feminine persona have become central to both imagery and process in creating art. My goals as an artist are to explore and convey the social and psychological ambivalence of being female: a role that is, for me, both delightful and unsettling.
