WMG presents its 9th Annual Members’ Show, a group exhibition juried by Patricia Biesen, Aileen Dy and Kathleen Waterloo.
Woman Made Gallery highlights the diverse talents of fifty-eight artists/members in its 9th Annual Members’ Show. Each year Woman Made honors its supportive members by hosting a show dedicated to them. Three member/artists jury the work of their peers by gathering a pool of artwork created by members of all backgrounds and levels of experience from all over the world. This year’s jurors, Patricia Biesen, Aileen Dy and Kathleen Waterloo, emerge from varied artistic experiences and welcome the chance to meld their unique perspectives into a cohesive whole. The Members’ Show exhibits the extensive range of WMG’s talented constituents through painting, fiber, mixed media, sculpture, ceramic, photography, encaustic, collage, and printmaking.
A few examples from the exhibition include:
Genevieve Yapelli’s collage Nine Ways to Be Catty, which features a crouching woman with cat-like features, examines the way women relate to stereotypes. She comments, “women often take on guises presupposed by society that equate femininity to oversexualization and submission. We imagine ourselves to have taken power when in fact we have fed our oppression.” Janice Elkins explores the mysterious qualities of nature in her abstract painting Varod by focusing on color, line and brushstrokes. Cat Chow’s detailed sculptural garments are made from unconventional materials as in her Zipper Dress, a long, graceful dress created entirely from zippers.
